“Building the Italeri CF-104 Starfighter in 1/32 Scale” is Now Available!

I’m pleased to announce that our latest title, Building the Italeri CF-104 Starfighter in 1/32 Scale by Chuck Sawyer, is now available!

In this 326-page eBook, Chuck Sawyer builds the Italeri 1/32 F-104G Starfighter kit as a Canadian CF-104, combining it with a modest selection of aftermarket products to produce a stunning model. Along the way, Chuck treats us to tutorials on obtaining a flawless gloss finish, getting the best out of the Alclad range of metallic paints, and how to apply HGW’s tricky Wet Transfer decals.

Along with kit reviews by Dave Williams and our usual array of Appendices, we’ve also included a 65-page walkaround by Gord McTaggart, of the CF-104 that currently resides at The Military Museum in Calgary Alberta, Canada.

Chuck’s build is highly instructive, and will be invaluable to anybody wishing to build the Italeri Starfighter, irrespective of the particular variant they’re building.

And as with all our books, should any updates be required, anyone who purchased a prior version gets lifetime free access to all subsequent updated versions! All new purchasers will of course receive the updated version automatically.

Note: all our prices are in Australian dollars.

v1.8 of “Building the Revell P-51D-5NA” Now Available!

One of the cornerstones of the KLP Publishing business model is lifetime free updates on all of our titles. And it’s not an empty promise, as anyone who has been following us for any length of time can attest. Our books get updated on an as-needs basis, and these updates can range from something as small as fixing a typo, all the way up to adding entire new sections to the book.

The fourth title in our Build Guide Series, Building the Revell P-51D-5NA Mustang in 1/32 Scale, was updated only a month ago, but here we are again, updating it to v1.8! There’s always been this one product image in this book that I’ve never been happy with, and I’ve finally been able to replace it with a slightly better version. And you can bet that if I find an even better version, I’ll be updating the book again!

As always, this update is free for existing purchasers, and new purchasers will always get the very latest version. If you purchased this book while logged in to your account, simply re-download it from the Downloads section of your profile on the KLP website. The original download link in your order confirmation email should also work. “Building the Italeri CF-104” Reaches First Draft!

After a protracted development period, interrupted by a major relocation and associated resettling, I’m pleased to report that our next title, Building the Italeri CF-104 Starfighter in 1/32 Scale, by Chuck Sawyer, has now reached the first draft stage. Phew!

Currently at 273 pages and counting, not only does it include Chuck’s fantastic build, but also tutorials on creating a gloss black base for natural metal finishes, getting the best out of HGW’s Wet Transfer decals, and a whopping 65-page walkaround of the CF-104 that currently resides at The Military Museum in Calgary Alberta, Canada.

The book now enters its final development phase, and will be tweaked and polished over the next couple of weeks or so, with a tentative aim of releasing it at the end of the month.

v1.7 of “Building the Revell P-51D” Now Available!

Anyone who has bought any of our titles before, or followed KLP Publishing for any length of time, will know that we occasionally revise and update our books—whether it be to fix typos, content errors, layout issues, or to add more content and pages. Best of all, we offer these updates free of charge to all existing purchasers of the title in question; in other words, lifetime free updates! And of course, new purchasers always receive the latest version of the book.

Well, now it’s the turn of the fourth title in our Build Guide Series, Building the Revell P-51D-5NA in 1/32 Scale, to receive an update—its seventh in fact! This update fixes some minor typographical and layout issues, and we’ve replaced one low-res product image with a better one. As such, v1.7 is not a critical or urgent update, and existing purchasers can download it at their leisure, or not bother at all!

Back to Business Sale!

Today marks an important turning point in the drawn-out saga that has been our recent house move, as it sees me easing back into the hot seat at KLP Publishing for the first time since taking up residence in the new digs. I can’t say that we’re fully settled in just yet, but we can at least see some light at the end of the tunnel now!

The new gym space is nearly ready for action:

As is the music studio:

But most importantly, the hobby room is approaching a state of readiness:

Perhaps I can finally settle down and build some models now! (In the top right section of the photo, you can see the new LED panel studio lights I’ll be using for photography from now on, replacing my bulky tripod-mounted soft boxes.)

“But Kev, you mentioned a sale?”

Ah, yes. To celebrate surviving the move and finally getting back to business, we’re having a 20% off sale for the duration of this week, running from Monday, 28 February, through to Sunday, 6 March. Just use the coupon code backtobusiness at checkout to receive 20% off the value of your cart. That coupon code again:

KLP in 2022!

With 2021 coming to a close, I thought I’d look ahead to next year, and give everyone a sneak peak at some of our plans for 2022. It will be our first year running KLP Publishing as a full-time operation, and as our sole source of income. While the latter notion is a tad daunting, it gives us the opportunity to push forward with more book releases more often, including potentially branching out into new areas that we haven’t touched on previously.

One of the first and most important events happening for KLP in 2022 is that we’ll be moving into new digs mid-January! This will be a major operation, as we attempt to dismantle and move two decades’ worth of accrued ‘stuff’, and settle into new and unfamiliar surroundings. It will be worth the pain and disruption, however, as our new location will be a much better base of operations than our current one.

The first title for publication in 2022 will be Chuck Sawyer’s magnificent CF-104 build of the Italeri Starfighter:

This is planned for a January release, but may possibly be delayed by the move. Stay tuned!

Next cab off the rank is planned to be Pete Fleishmann’s amazing vignette featuring the Kitty Hawk 1/35 scale HH-60G Pavehawk:

And yes, that is Pete’s model in the cover image! We’re hopeful for a first-quarter release for this one.

Modeller’s Monograph Series

The BIG news for 2022, however, is that we will be collaborating with Geoff Coughlin of Scale Modelling Now on a 3-volume series covering British Phantoms, entitled, oddly enough, Building the British Phantoms.

This 3-volume set will spearhead our new Modeller’s Monograph Series, with Volume 1 slated for release in early Q2. It will feature a balanced mix of real aircraft and modelling content, with the aim being to produce a one-stop-shop for modellers interested in building a British Phantom. The series will cover the FG.1, the FGR.2, and the F-4J(UK). I’ll post more news about this as the project develops. As ever, stay tuned!

But Wait, There’s More!

Other projects in the queue for 2022, but without a set place in the schedule, include Chuck Sawyer’s Kitty Hawk 1/32 scale Harvard/Texan, and Peter Castle’s amazing Hawker Fury scratch-build in 1/18 scale (cover images subject to change):

We also have a number of other projects in development that may or may not see the light of day in 2022, but we’ll confirm those as they come to fruition. Some may falter and fall by the wayside, while others might more realistically be expected in 2023. One thing’s for certain, however, and that is that 2022 is going to be a big year, and we look forward sharing our news and releases with you as the year ahead unfolds. Make sure you subscribe to our blog to be notified of all the latest updates as they happen:

And for those of you who celebrate Christmas, I wish you all the best of the season!

See you all next year!
